Taste of Tuesday: Apple sqaures

My grandmother came over Sunday afternoon for lunch. We always like to have her join in to bake something. Partly because she enjoys it and partly mostly because she only eats sweets "when she comes to our house and it's before 5pm." My grandmother is a hoot! This time we made some apple squares. My mom's said she's made them before but I dont remember. i assumed they would be the texture of maybe a cheesecake or something that's thick. Oh my gosh! I think I ate 3 that night. The one side note I will say is that it contains nuts. If you can have them though, they pretty much make the whole thing 10 times better!

Ingredients:

  • 1 ¾ cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup oil
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 2 cups thinly sliced apples

Directions:
  1. Cream together the sugar eggs beating until fluffy
  2. Add dry ingredients alternatively with oil and vanilla.
  3. Fold in nuts and apples
  4. Pour into greased 13x9 inch pan
  5. Bake for 40 mins at 350 degrees. Cool and cut into squares.

Oh my goodness this looks delish! I think I can even convert that to gluten free. And you are so right, nuts make everything better!
