Inspire Me 2014 - Personal Goals

Today's topic for Inspire Me 2014 could not have come on a better day. At the moment I'm preparing for the first day of the semester...woo hoo right?! Today is my extremely long day. I'll be stuck there from 10:30am until 8:30, fun! Anyway, for me, the first day of the semester is pretty much the start of the new year. And wih the new year I promised myself I'd work on a few things for me.

Today's prompt is:
Wednesday January 22: What are some personal goals you’d like to work on this year?

One of the biggest problems I have is that I'll create a new goal for myself and be so excited to carry it through. Mostly because the goals aren't complicated. In fact, they don't take up barely any time. They will also benefit me int he future which is always my moto. If you can take 20 minutes out of your day to accomplish something, the rewards will be worth it. But then the business of each day/semester gets in the way and I say to myself "oh I'll remember or do it tomorrow"...but then I don't. I know I should do it but I end up not caring. So this year I've decided to be proactive and really focus on the little things that will actually help me.

1. Bring my planner to school everyday - this was something I kicked myself everyday for last year. I had a planner, a nice one, and while I used it at home, I never seemed to remember to bring it with me. If you knew me personally, you'd see how big of an organizer I am. I have a good memory and am able to remember certain things without writing them down but usually it's nice to have it in plain sight right in front of me. When i wouldn't bring the planner to school I'd end up writing the homework on one of the pages of notes I had taken. Not exactly convenient. Why did I never bring my planner? Mostly I'd forget because I'd be rushing to get to school way early. It doesn't make much sense. I couldn't take two seconds to pick up a planner because I didn't want to be two seconds late. This year I'm going to make sure it's the first thing on my list and always bring it

2) Not being a perfectionist with school - as I mentioned above I like to be way early going to school. I'm not sure why but I feel more comfortable being one of the first in the classroom. I can get organized and know that I'm there with any troubles. One of the things I had to work on this past semester is when Brian would drive me. Brian isn't exactly the earliest person so we'd leave "later than I wanted" and I'd be upset. Silly I know. After awhile though, I started to realize that even getting there just 5 minutes before class began was still getting there early. Another thing with school is that both semesters last year I put so much pressure on myself to be a perfectionist when doing homework or studying. I used to spend 5 hours a night on something that should of only took maybe 2/3. Part of it is because I have to pace myself  but also I didn't like getting the wrong answer and always needed to take notes of almost everything in the book. I realized I was getting no where and I wasn't really focusing on the main point. It's ok not to get the best score on a test or miss a question or two on homework. As long as I do my best and learn something, that's what matters

3) Stick to exercising - this is one of those "I'll do it tomorrow" type of things. We did so well for awhile. My parents and I would exercise together which made it more fun. But then we'd get busy, the days would fly by and we'd be "too tired" to even stretch or do anything simple. My mom has dedicated Wednesday's as a day to eat purely healthy and make a good dinner. And I have to say I actually enjoy when this day comes around. And now that the holiday's are over we have promised ourselves to workout 30 minutes a day. Any amount is always good!

4) Schedule blog posts more often - I've said it before and I'll say it again....I'm the type of blogger that likes to write her post on the day of posting. When I get an idea or have a story I like to tell it as I'm feeling it to capture the full effect. The problem is that last year when I'd do that I found I wouldn't post at all. School got so intense that I didn't have much time for relaxing so during the times I could of been writing, I was relaxing. That's not a bad thing, I know, but I love this little 'ole blog and community so much that I want to write everyday. I know sometimes it's healthy to take a blog break but then I find I don't have much inspiration when i come back. So I'm dedicating a few hours on the weekend to scheduling some posts for the week and I hope this will lighten the pressure I have during the week

Here are a few small goals that I'd like to accomplish:
1) being more patient with things that aren't a big deal
2) continue doing random acts of kindness
3) really focusing on getting a job
4) not being as OCD

What are some goals you'd like to work on? We'd love to hear!

You have some really good goals! I used to be really good about bringing a planner with me. Try taking it with you everywhere, (like in your purse) that way its almost always by your side. I'm the same way about getting places at a certain time. It's better to be earlier than later. I think it's a mental thing. In my mind, If I'm early, I feel better about my day without rushing.
I am also the same way with exercising! I always say "diet starts tomorrow" or "workout starts tomorrow" yet.. I keep saying it everyday. (i finally started yesterday)
& yes blog posts! I need to start scheduling them too so I dont feel rushed in the morning to complete them! I love scheduling them and knowing i dont have to think or be stressed to come up with one!

xoxo sorry I wrote so much, I just connect on this subject alot!
